The Banana Bond

I have got to give it to the chemists.

After spending their entire lives trying to come up with unpronounceable names to give to the various things they find, they finally gave up and gave in.

They find a new bond type , they decide to name it Banana bond.

Diborane, the star of todays blog, has the formula B2H6.

Now, we know that Boron has 3 valence electrons and Hydrogen each has 1. So formation of BH3 individually is possible, but how are these two structures connected?

This is where our fruit bond kicks in.

FORMATION

So we understood how it is formed and the actual chemistry behind it. Now comes an important and life-altering question:-

Why the heck did they name it 'banana' bond?

The chemists named it banana bond because they thought the bond looked like a banana. Istg, that's apparently the real reason.

Okay, We are approaching a very important segment of the blog now, without this particular video, the understanding we have achieved in this blog will be rendered absolutely useless.
