The trick to flying with your feet on the ground

I am going to go a little eccentric with this post and instead of starting with a quote, am gonna start with one of my favourite song lyrics...

"Can't live forever with my head in the clouds

Can't predict the weather with my feet on the ground"

<_Quite a conundrum isn't it? _>

(kudos if you could guess the song!..)

The act of flying has always mesmerised humans... Just the idea of defying the rules set by gravity has excited many philosophers, scientists (and ofcourse, how can we forget the creators of captain marvel , superman and luna lovegood)

This soon lead to two brothers (who were apparently always right) <bad joke, ik but couldn't stop myself 😁>, to create a pair of wings and make flight possible for humans

In this blog, we will deal with physics behind how they made it possible

But, before we do conquer a whole new sphere aka the atmosphere , we need to figure out how it works and flows, For this we need to get into the head of yet another scientist

THE BERNOULLI'S THEOREM

Now, that we have proved a mathematical statement not once but twice. We can move on the real deal

Let's imagine the wing of a plane ( or a bird)

It has this weird shape for a very good reason

This particular shape causes the relative motion of air above the wing to be faster than the part below , so the velocity of air (aka fluid) above the wind is greater than the velocity of air below it.

Using Bernoulli's theorem we can say that the pressure is reduced in the place where velocity is higher ( cause square of velocity and pressure have to be constant both above and below the wing, if one increases, the other has to decrease to keep the equation satisfied)

The pressure above the wings is lower than the pressure below the wing. We know that, flow is always from a place of higher pressure to lower pressure , hence the wing is pushed up towards area of lower pressure.

And, that's the trick to flying!

Now a meme to keep up with my lack of right jokes in this blog
